Sometimes the best way forward is to admit you are not moving

There’s nothing you could think of that we didn’t try already. Believe me. Despite all our half-hearted efforts, it all stays the same. So why not focus on what’s really important? Because there’s never enough of it. You can fool yourself sometimes and we might occasionally help you with that. You can rely on set goals (personal or other) or even trust those who got you into this. But no matter how high you are, it’s not good enough. And even if, by some miracle, it is, tomorrow’s another day and you start from scratch. Unless something happens. Unless you quit.

Now, I know you thought already about quitting. We all had to consider this course of action. Some of us are dreaming about it every Friday or any other day in the week. It is certainly a favourite talking point when one’s feeling low and unhappy or unfulfilled. But at the end, one look at your account would easily persuade you everything’s under control. Well, perhaps you are not the one controlling it but look around. Everyone’s the same. You have to do something in your life, you have to live, don’t you? So why risking it all because of slight chance you could do better with something else than what you’ve got right now?

And there are more ways of escape the day-to-day dread of not having enough. At least partly. You can get more involved. If you are not noticed for your talents (or if you have none), perhaps someone might lose a word or two for you. It is a form of escape, albeit a tricky one. You see, after this point, your life won’t revolve around your needs only, but you will be forced to see the bigger picture, the bigger needs. There will be different promises, and you will be required to make some yourself. Inspire, lure, celebrate what others around you perceive as success. If before you thought you could affect whether you are getting enough, now you would have to rely on others as well. Without their help, there’ll never… But that is another fake promise.

So why leaving? Yes, this might not be the healthiest thing under the sun, but everything’s got a price. And pay you shall until you lose your ability to do so. What then? Better to focus on now. But rest assured, there’ll be others like you when you are no more. For as long as there is offer, the demand persists. If you stick around long enough, you could notice slight changes in the formula, but the game stays the same. You either got it or you don’t. Doesn’t matter if you stay in this call centre or move to elsewhere. You have to do something in your life and that is hard to do without the means. Think about it. After your shift though, there are calls in the queue and the average speed of answer is getting dangerously close to what we in management consider a failed goal. Now go and don’t forget, we are making our customers’ day brighter and more successful.
